My background includes nearly 30 years in the media business. I covered sports for my high school paper and the local weekly. I worked for United Press International as a copyboy, a reporter, editor, sales executive and regional manager. I spent 2-1/2 years in the circulation department at the Chicago Sun-Times and started a newspaper aimed at trade show and convention delegates in Chicago while earning my MBA at Northwestern University. I spent 13 years at Tribune Media Services, syndicating comics, columns, puzzles and wire services. I wrote a column about the newspaper industry for a newspaper trade magazine, News & Tech, and have been a freelance reporter for a Massachusetts parenting magazine, baystateparent, where I won four journalism awards, three from the New England Newspaper & Press Association and the other from the Parenting Media Association. I've also worked for a website. I co-authored a book with a Bryn Mawr College anthropology professor, Phil Kilbride, on plural marriage. I've worked as a reporter in Connecticut. As for my politics, I'm neither conservative enough for the Democrats nor liberal enough for the Republicans.
